Frequency Table - JSS2 Mathematics Lesson Note
A frequency table is a summary of data where the data values are grouped together with their corresponding frequencies - how often each value occurs.
Example: Using the same scores from above, we can create a frequency table:
Score Frequency
60 1
65 1
73 1
78 1
79 1
82 2
85 1
88 1
91 1
In this frequency table:
The score 82 appears twice, so its frequency is 2.
Most scores appear only once, indicating a spread-out distribution of scores.
The table provides a clear snapshot of how often each score occurs in the data set, which helps in analyzing the distribution and identifying common or uncommon values.
These two methods, ordered presentation of data and frequency tables, are fundamental in statistics for organizing and understanding data effectively.
