Fundamental Human Rights - SS1 Government Lesson Note

Fundamental human rights are basic rights and freedoms that every person is entitled to, simply by being human. They are universal, meaning they apply to everyone regardless of their race, gender, nationality, religion, or any other characteristic. These rights include the right to life, liberty, and security of person, freedom from torture and slavery, freedom of expression and belief, and the right to a fair trial.

Fundamental human rights are protected by laws and international agreements, such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and are essential for the well-being and dignity of every individual. They provide a framework for ensuring that every person is treated with respect and dignity, and are necessary for building a just and equitable society.

The protection and promotion of fundamental human rights are the responsibility of governments, civil society organizations, and individuals, and require ongoing effort and vigilance to ensure they are upheld.
