General Safety Guidelines - JSS1 Agricultural science Lesson Note
Training and Education: Ensure that all individuals working on the farm receive proper training on the use of tools and equipment. Knowledgeable and well-trained workers are less likely to make mistakes that could lead to accidents.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Mandate the use of appropriate PPE, such as gloves, safety goggles, ear protection, and sturdy footwear, to reduce the risk of injuries.
Equipment Maintenance: Regularly inspect and maintain farm tools and equipment to ensure they are in good working condition. Faulty tools can lead to accidents and injuries.
Safe Work Practices: Encourage safe work habits, such as lifting with the legs, not the back, and using proper body mechanics to avoid strains and injuries.
Emergency Preparedness: Establish emergency procedures and make sure all individuals on the farm are familiar with them. This includes knowing the location of first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and emergency exits.
