Grammar: making sentence with present and past tense - JSS1 English Language Lesson Note
Making sentences with the present tense and past tense.
Ever wondered how to talk about what you do every day or what happened in the past? This guide will help you master the present tense and past tense for sparkling sentences!
Present Tense: All About Habits
Use the present tense to describe actions that happen regularly. These are your habits!
Here are some examples:
She visits the market every day. (This is her regular shopping routine.)
Dr. Audu usually arrives at the hospital by 9. (He does this most mornings.)
We enjoy playing football on Saturday mornings. (This is a regular activity for you and your friends.)
Past Tense: Time Travel for Actions!
Use the past tense to talk about actions, events, or states that happened before now. Imagine going back in time!
Usually, we add -ed to the verb to form the past tense. (Look = looked, listen = listened)
Let's see some examples:
My grandfather passed away last year. (This is an event that happened in the past.)
He resided in Canada in 1991. (This tells us about a past state.)
You contacted Lanre. (This action happened earlier.)
