Modal auxiliary verbs are a type of auxiliary verb that is used to express possibility, necessity, ability, or permission.
There are nine modal auxiliary verbs in English: can, could, may, might, must, shall, should, will, and would.
Modal auxiliary verbs do not change form to indicate person, number, tense, or voice.
Modal auxiliary verbs are always followed by the infinitive form of the main verb.
Modal auxiliary verbs cannot be used with modal auxiliary verbs.
Modal auxiliary verbs can be used in negative and interrogative sentences.
Here are some examples of modal auxiliary verbs in use: I can swim. (Ability), You may go. (Permission)We must finish our homework. (Necessity), She would like to go to the park. (Desire) , He could have gone to the store, but he didn't. (Hypothetical situation).
