Punctuation is the use of specific signs or marks to make a piece of writing clear and easy to understand. These include the full stop, quotation mark, question mark, comma, colon, hyphen, exclamation mark, semi-colon, and others.
Full Stop: This is a punctuation mark used at the end of a sentence and for abbreviations. Here are some examples:
1. We saw Felix at eight o'clock.
2. I see him every day.
3. They have completed the work.
4. The birds sing.
Abbreviations
Abbreviations are shortened forms of words or phrases. They can be made using the initial letters of the words in the phrase. Here are some examples:
- O.A.U. stands for Obafemi Awolowo University
- U.N. stands for United Nations
- W.A.E.C. stands for West African Examinations Council
- N.E.C.O. stands for National Examinations Council
- D.L.H.S. stands for Deeper Life High School
Note: Abbreviations may or may not have a full stop at the end. This depends on the style guide you are following. Some style guides recommend using full stops, while others do not.
