Grammar: Tenses of Active and Passive voice - JSS1 English Language Lesson Note

Definition: 
Active voice is when the subject of a sentence does the action. It's like saying who or what is doing something in a sentence.

Passive voice is when the subject of a sentence has something done to it. It's like saying who or what is receiving the action in a sentence.

Means of Identification: 
Active voice 
Look for who or what is doing the action in the sentence. It usually comes before the verb.
Passive voice : Look for a form of the verb "to be" followed by a past participle. Sometimes, the person or thing doing the action is not mentioned, or it comes after "by".

Active Voice:
1. In active voice, the subject performs the action of the verb.
2. Examples:
   - Present Tense: The dog chases the cat.
   - Past Tense: She played basketball yesterday.
   - Future Tense: They will finish their homework tomorrow.

Passive Voice:
1. In passive voice, the subject receives the action of the verb.
2. To form the passive voice, use a form of the verb "to be" (am, is, are, was, were, has been, have been, had been, will be, will have been) followed by the past participle of the main verb.
3. Examples:
   - Present Tense: The cat is chased by the dog.
   - Past Tense: Basketball was played by her yesterday.
   - Future Tense: Their homework will be finished by them tomorrow.
