Grammar: Tenses - The Present Tense
- Tense: Tells us when an action happens.
- Present Tense: We use this tense to talk about things that happen now (all the time) or things that happen regularly.
Examples:
- I read a book every night. (Regular action)
- The sun shines during the day. (Always happens)
Practice: Change these sentences to the Present Simple tense:
- John drove a taxi yesterday. (Past) - John drives a taxi. (Present)
- He had not driven a car. (Past Perfect) - He doesn't drive a car. (Present Simple)
- We did not work at night. (Past) - We don't work at night. (Present Simple)
- She sold a loaf of bread. (Past) - She sells bread sometimes. (Present Simple) Change to show a regular action
Vocabulary Development: The Library
Library: A place where books and other materials are kept for people to borrow and read.
The library is a building that houses a collection of books and other materials.It can also mean a room where books are kept.Consider the following words.Library Words:
- Library card: A card that lets you borrow books from the library.
- Catalogue: A list of all the books and other things in the library. (This can be a computer list now!)
- Library fine: A charge you have to pay if you don't return your library books on time.
- Public library: A library that everyone can use for free.
- Bibliotheca: An old-fashioned word for "library."
