Identification of Common Hand Tools - JSS1 Agricultural science Lesson Note

Shovel: A versatile tool used for digging, lifting, and moving soil. It comes in various shapes and sizes for different tasks.

Hoe: Designed for weeding, breaking up soil, and cultivating. It typically has a flat blade and is used by pushing and pulling.

Rake: Consists of a series of tines attached to a handle. Rakes are used for gathering debris, levelling soil, and preparing seedbeds.

Secateurs (Pruning Shears): Handheld cutting tools for trimming plants, pruning branches, and harvesting fruits or flowers.

Wheelbarrow: A cart with one or two wheels and handles, used for transporting materials like soil, manure, or harvested crops.

Spade: Similar to a shovel but with a flat, square blade. It is suitable for digging and moving soil in confined spaces.

Harrow: An implement with spikes, teeth, or disks used to break up soil clumps, remove weeds, and prepare the soil for planting.
