Important lines of latitudes - SS1 Geography Lesson Note

The Tropic of Cancer (approximately 23.5 degrees north): This is the northernmost point where the Sun appears directly overhead at least once a year. It marks the beginning of the tropics.

 

The Tropic of Capricorn (approximately 23.5 degrees south): This is the southernmost point where the Sun appears directly overhead at least once a year. It marks the southern boundary of the tropics.

 

The Arctic Circle (approximately 66.5 degrees north): This line marks the southernmost point where the midnight sun occurs during the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere.

The Antarctic Circle (approximately 66.5 degrees south): This line marks the northernmost point where the midnight sun occurs during the summer solstice in the Southern Hemisphere.
