Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Strategies - JSS1 Agricultural science Lesson Note

Integrated Pest Management combines various control methods for effective and sustainable pest and disease management.

1. Monitoring and Early Detection: Regular scouting and monitoring to detect pests or diseases early, allowing for timely intervention.

2. Biological Control: Incorporating natural enemies to regulate pest populations without relying solely on chemical inputs.

3. Cultural Practices: Implementing cultural control methods, such as crop rotation and sanitation, to create an environment less favourable to pests.

4. Chemical Control as a Last Resort: Judicious use of pesticides when necessary, considering their environmental impact and using them as a last resort.

5. Education and Training: Educating farmers on pest and disease management practices, promoting sustainable approaches and reducing reliance on chemical control.
