Introduction - JSS3 Christian Religious Studies Lesson Note
The Holy Spirit came to the disciples in a common room on the Pentecost day. Pentecost was a festival of the Jews which comes up every seven weeks (50 days) after Passover. This feast is usually organized to thank God for a good agricultural year and to ask Him for more blessings in the new agricultural year. The feast was attended by many Jews at Jerusalem and people from all walks of life living in Jerusalem because it was a popular feast. It was on that day that the Holy Spirit who was long promised to the disciples came upon them and they spoke in different tongues that people who witnessed it heard them in their respective languages and they were surprised at the development and were forced to question. ‘Are not all those who are speaking Galileans and how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language?’ (Acts 2:7-8)
