Introduction to Computer Networks - JSS3 Basic technology Lesson Note
A computer network is a collection of interconnected devices that can communicate with each other and share resources. Networks can vary in size and complexity, and they are categorised into different types based on their geographic scope:
- Local Area Network (LAN): Covers a small geographic area, such as a single building or campus. LANs are typically used in homes, schools, and offices.
- Wide Area Network (WAN): Spans a large geographic area, such as a city, country, or even globally. The internet is the largest example of a WAN.
- Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN): Similar to a LAN but uses wireless technology (Wi-Fi) to connect devices. WLANs are common in homes, offices, and public places like cafes and airports.
