Agriculture is a multidisciplinary field, encompassing various branches that address different aspects of food production and resource management. The primary branches include Crop Production, Animal Husbandry, Agricultural Engineering, and Agricultural Economics.

Crop Production

  1. Involves the cultivation of plants for food, fibre, and other products.
  2. Focuses on plant breeding, crop management, pest control, and sustainable farming practices
  3. Essential for ensuring an adequate and diverse food supply for the growing global population.

Animal Husbandry

  1. Concerned with the breeding, care, and management of livestock for various purposes, including meat, milk, wool, and work
  2. Encompasses animal nutrition, health, and welfare, as well as selective breeding to improve desirable traits.

Agricultural Engineering

  1. Integrates engineering principles with agricultural practices to develop technologies and machinery that enhance efficiency
  2. Involves the design and implementation of irrigation systems, farm machinery, and agricultural structures.

Agricultural Economics

  1. Focuses on the economic aspects of agriculture, including production, distribution, and consumption of agricultural goods and services
  2. Addresses issues such as market trends, pricing, trade, and policy to ensure economic sustainability for farmers and the agricultural industry.
