Land Pollution - JSS1 Basic science Lesson Note
Land pollution, also known as soil pollution, happens when the soil becomes contaminated with harmful substances such as chemicals, waste materials, and hazardous pollutants. It occurs due to various human activities like improper waste disposal, industrial activities, mining, and agricultural practices that release harmful chemicals and toxins into the soil. Land pollution degrades soil quality, reduces fertility, and harms plants, animals, and microorganisms living in the soil. It also poses risks to human health through the consumption of contaminated food and water and exposure to toxic substances. Proper waste management, recycling, and adopting sustainable land use practices are essential to prevent and mitigate land pollution.
