Location And Localization of Industries In Nigeria - SS2 Economics Lesson Note

Industries in Nigeria are located in various parts of the country, with most of them being concentrated in the urban areas, particularly the major cities such as Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Kano. The location of industries in Nigeria is largely influenced by factors such as the availability of raw materials, access to markets, availability of labor, infrastructure, and government policies.

For example, the oil and gas industry is predominantly located in the Niger Delta region due to the abundance of crude oil in the area. Similarly, the agricultural sector is largely located in the rural areas, where there is easy access to farmland and a large pool of cheap labor.

In recent years, there has been a growing trend towards the localization of industries in Nigeria, which involves the establishment of industries in close proximity to the source of raw materials or the market. This has been driven by factors such as rising transportation costs, increased competition, and the need to reduce environmental impact.
