Meaning and definition of citizenship - SS1 Government Lesson Note
Citizenship is the legal status given to an individual that allows them to enjoy certain rights, privileges, and responsibilities within a particular country or state.
It generally implies that the person is a member of that country and is entitled to all the rights and benefits that come with it, including the right to vote, work, and live within the country. In return, citizens are expected to obey the laws, pay taxes, and defend the country if necessary. Citizenship can be acquired through birth, descent, marriage, or naturalization.
