Meaning of Habitat - JSS2 Basic science Lesson Note
Habitat refers to the natural environment where a particular organism or species lives and thrives. It includes all the living (biotic) and non-living (abiotic) components of an ecosystem that provide the necessary resources for an organism to survive, such as food, water, shelter, and space.
Habitats can range from vast ecosystems like forests and oceans to smaller niches like the underside of a rock or the canopy of a tree. The characteristics of a habitat, such as temperature, humidity, vegetation, and terrain, influence the types of organisms that can live there.
