Method of Propagation - SS1 Agriculture Lesson Note
Seed Propagation: Rubber trees can be propagated from seeds, but this method is less common because it results in genetic variability. Seeds should be sown in a nursery, and once the seedlings are strong enough, they can be transplanted to the main field.
Vegetative Propagation: This is the preferred method for rubber trees because it maintains the desired genetic characteristics. The most common technique is through bud grafting or budding. A healthy bud or scion from a mature rubber tree is inserted into a slit made in the bark of a young seedling or established rubber tree. This ensures the propagation of high-quality latex-producing varieties.
