Methods of Power Generation - JSS2 Basic technology Lesson Note
Power generation methods encompass various techniques to convert energy into electrical power:
- Thermal Power: Uses combustion of fossil fuels (coal, oil, natural gas) or biomass to heat water and produce steam that drives turbines.
- Hydroelectric Power: Uses flowing water to spin turbines connected to generators, harnessing gravitational potential energy.
- Nuclear Power: Uses nuclear reactions (fission) to generate heat, producing steam to drive turbines.
- Renewable Energy: Includes solar photovoltaic (PV), wind turbines, and geothermal, converting natural resources directly into electricity.
