Methods of Transferring Embroidery Designs - JSS3 Cultural and creative art Lesson Note

These methods offer different ways to transfer embroidery designs onto fabric, each with its own advantages depending on the complexity of the design and personal preference.

Carbon Paper: This method involves placing a sheet of carbon paper underneath the embroidery design and tracing the design onto the fabric with a pen or stylus. The pressure transfers the design onto the fabric, leaving behind an outline that can be stitched over.

Pricking: Pricking involves placing a paper pattern on the fabric and using a needle or pin to prick holes along the design lines. When the paper is removed, the holes serve as a guide for stitching the design onto the fabric.

Tailor Tack: Tailor tacking involves using contrasting thread to mark the design directly onto the fabric. Temporary stitches are made along the design lines, and then the paper pattern is removed. The tailor tacks can be easily removed after the embroidery is complete.

Direct Drawing: With this method, the design is drawn directly onto the fabric using water-soluble markers, fabric pencils, or chalk. Once the embroidery is finished, any remaining marks can be washed away or brushed off.
