Mineral Resources and Agriculture in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT): - SS1 Geography Lesson Note
Mineral Resources:
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Nigeria is not particularly known for abundant mineral resources. The region is more recognized as the administrative and political center of the country. However, there are some mineral resources of limited commercial value, such as clay, limestone, and granite. These resources are mainly utilized for construction and building materials.
Agriculture:
Agriculture in the FCT is predominantly subsistence farming, with a focus on crops like maize, yam, cassava, and vegetables. Despite being the capital, a significant portion of the FCT's land is still used for agricultural purposes. Farmers in the region primarily engage in small-scale farming to meet local food needs. Commercial agriculture is not as prevalent as in other states of Nigeria due to urbanization and the administrative nature of the territory.
