Mode of transmission - JSS1 Social studies Lesson Note
HIV is mainly transmitted through:
Unprotected Sex: The virus can be passed through unprotected sexual intercourse with an infected person.
Contaminated Blood: Sharing needles for drug use or receiving contaminated blood or blood products can transmit the virus.
From Mother to Child: HIV can be passed from an infected mother to her baby during childbirth or breastfeeding.
Needlestick Injuries: Healthcare workers can be at risk if they get pricked by a needle contaminated with HIV-infected blood.
It is important to note that HIV is not transmitted through casual contact like hugging or sharing utensils, and it doesn't spread through air or water.
Using protection during sex, getting tested, and avoiding sharing needles are key measures to prevent HIV transmission.
