Need for Consumer Education - JSS1 Business studies Lesson Note
Consumer education is necessary because:
- It empowers consumers to make informed decisions: With the abundance of choices in the market, consumers need to understand product information, pricing, quality, and safety standards to make wise purchasing decisions.
- It protects consumers from exploitation: Consumers who lack awareness may fall prey to unfair or deceptive practices by businesses, such as false advertising, price gouging, or selling unsafe products.
- It promotes responsible consumption: Consumer education encourages responsible consumption habits, such as sustainable purchasing practices, budgeting, and avoiding unnecessary debt.
- It enhances consumer rights awareness: Educated consumers are more likely to assert their rights, such as the right to safety, the right to information, the right to choose, and the right to redress.
