Pole Vault Construction: Aluminum vs. Fiberglass - JSS2 Physical and health education Lesson Note

Aluminum Pole Vault:

Material: Aluminum poles are typically made of a combination of aluminum alloys.

Characteristics: They are known for their rigidity and strength, providing stability during the vault.

Advantages: Aluminum poles are durable and offer consistent performance. They are also less affected by changes in temperature or humidity.

Disadvantages: They tend to be heavier compared to fiberglass poles, which can affect the vaulter's ability to control the pole effectively.

Fiberglass Pole Vault:

Material: Fiberglass poles are made of composite materials, typically fiberglass reinforced with epoxy resin.

Characteristics: They are lightweight and flexible, allowing for greater energy storage and release during the vault.

Advantages: Fiberglass poles are lighter, making them easier for vaulters to control and manipulate during the vaulting process. They also offer more flex, which can help propel the vaulter higher.

Disadvantages: Fiberglass poles may require more careful handling and maintenance to prevent damage, as they can be more prone to breakage if not used correctly.
