Pre-Colonial Era - JSS1 Social studies Lesson Note
Nigeria's social studies education has a rich history that can be traced back to the pre-colonial era when indigenous societies had their traditional systems of education. However, a more structured form of social studies education emerged during the colonial period.
Before British colonization, various ethnic groups in Nigeria had their distinct educational systems, which included imparting knowledge on social values, cultural practices, and survival skills. These informal systems laid the foundation for later developments in social studies education.
