Production of Sound - JSS3 Basic science Lesson Note
Sound is created when an object vibrates, causing the air particles around it to vibrate. These vibrating air particles form sound waves that travel through the air. The pitch of the sound depends on the frequency of the vibrations – higher frequency vibrations produce higher pitch sounds, while lower frequency vibrations produce lower pitch sounds.
The amplitude of the vibrations determines the volume or loudness of the sound. For example, when you pluck a guitar string, it vibrates and produces sound waves. Similarly, when vocal cords vibrate as air passes through them, it creates speech or singing sounds.
