Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) - SS1 ICT Lesson Note
The Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) is the traditional global network used for voice communication through landline telephones. It's a circuit-switched network that has been in use for decades. In a circuit-switched network like PSTN, a dedicated communication path, or circuit, is established between two parties for the duration of their conversation. This ensures a consistent and dedicated connection throughout the call. PSTN supports analog voice signals, and it's the foundation of early telephony.

However, with the advent of digital communication technologies and the internet, the PSTN has seen a decline in use, and many regions are transitioning towards Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) for voice communication.
