Purpose of Livestock Farming - JSS1 Agricultural science Lesson Note

1. Food Production: Livestock farming provides a significant source of animal-based products such as meat, milk, eggs, and leather.

2. Labour: Certain livestock species, like oxen, are used as draft animals for ploughing fields and transportation.

3. Fibre Production: Animals like sheep and goats contribute to the textile industry by producing wool and mohair.

4. Companionship: Some animals, especially smaller ones like rabbits, may also be kept as pets for companionship.

5. Income Generation: Livestock farming is a source of livelihood, generating income for farmers through the sale of livestock and their products.
