Quadratic Equations with Fractions - SS2 Mathematics Lesson Note

Example: Solve \(\frac{x^{2}}{5} - \frac{1}{2}x + \frac{1}{5} = 0\)

Solution

\(\frac{x^{2}}{5} - \frac{1}{2}x + \frac{1}{5} = 0\), multiply each term by the LCM of the denominators \(10\)

\({2x}^{2} - 5x + 2 = 0\), factorize the quadratic equation of the LHS

\[(2x - 1)(x - 2) = 0\]

\[so\ x = \ \frac{1}{2}\ or\ 2\]
