Reduction of Fractions to Lowest Term - JSS1 Mathematics Lesson Note

Meaning:

Reducing a fraction to its lowest term means simplifying it so that the numerator and the denominator are as small as possible while still having the same value.

How to Reduce:

Find the greatest common divisor (GCD) of the numerator and the denominator.

Divide both the numerator and the denominator by the GCD.

Example:

Reduce 8/12

The GCD of 8 and 12 is 4.

Divide both the numerator and the denominator by 4:

8÷4=2

----

12÷4=3

 = 2/3
