Several factors affect the rate of evaporation - JSS2 Basic science Lesson Note
Temperature: Higher temperatures increase the kinetic energy of molecules, leading to more frequent and energetic collisions, which increase the rate of evaporation.
Surface area: A larger surface area allows more molecules to escape into the air, thus increasing the rate of evaporation.
Humidity: Lower humidity levels create a larger difference in vapor pressure between the liquid and the air, promoting faster evaporation.
Air movement: Moving air carries away water vapor from the surface, reducing the concentration of vapor above the liquid and enhancing evaporation.
Presence of other substances: Substances dissolved in the liquid, such as salts, can hinder evaporation by interfering with the ability of water molecules to escape into the air.
