Sources of drugs can vary widely. They can be naturally occurring, like plants (e.g., cannabis, opium poppy), or synthetic, made in laboratories (e.g., methamphetamine, ecstasy). Some drugs are derived from animals (e.g., venom used in certain medications). Additionally, pharmaceutical companies manufacture drugs for medical purposes, which can be obtained through prescriptions from healthcare professionals. Illegal drugs are often produced and distributed through illicit means, such as drug cartels or clandestine laboratories.
