Sources of energy - JSS1 Basic science Lesson Note
Energy can be derived from various sources, including:
Fossil fuels: such as coal, oil, and natural gas, which are formed from organic matter over millions of years.
Renewable sources: like sunlight (solar energy), wind, water (hydropower), biomass (organic matter), and geothermal heat, which are naturally replenished and environmentally friendly.
Nuclear energy: derived from the fission or fusion of atomic nuclei, which releases large amounts of energy.
Other sources: such as tidal energy (from the gravitational pull of the moon and sun) and hydrogen fuel cells (using hydrogen as a clean energy source).
Each energy source has its own advantages and disadvantages in terms of availability, environmental impact, cost, and efficiency, which must be considered in the context of energy production and consumption.
