The Solar System And Planets - SS3 Physics Lesson Note

The Solar System is the collection of planets, dwarf planets, moons, asteroids, and other objects that orbit around the star at the center of the Solar System, the Sun. The eight planets in the Solar System, in order from the Sun, are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. The four inner planets are smaller and are composed mainly of rock and metal, while the four outer planets are larger and are composed mainly of gas and ice. The largest planet in the Solar System is Jupiter, while the smallest planet is Mercury.

The Solar System also includes five dwarf planets: Ceres, Pluto, Haumea, Makemake, and Eris. These are smaller than the eight planets and have not cleared their orbits of other debris. The Solar System also has numerous moons, with Jupiter having the most at 79 known moons.

The study of the Solar System and its objects is important for understanding the history of the Solar System, the formation of planets and other celestial bodies, and the potential for life beyond Earth.
