Types of Harmful Traditional Practices - JSS2 Social studies Lesson Note

a) Use of Children for Begging:

b) Child Agricultural Labour:

Involves engaging children in hazardous agricultural work, affecting their health, education, and overall development.

 

c) Female Circumcision:

Also known as female genital mutilation (FGM), it involves the removal or alteration of female genital organs, often without medical necessity, posing serious health risks.

 

d) Early Marriage:

Refers to marrying children, particularly girls, before they reach the legal age, jeopardizing their education, health, and personal development.

 

These practices are considered harmful due to their detrimental effects on physical and mental well-being, perpetuating cycles of poverty, and violating fundamental human rights.
