Understanding How Appliances Work - JSS1 Basic technology Lesson Note
Each electrical appliance operates based on a specific principle and design:
- Refrigerators; use a refrigeration cycle involving a refrigerant, compressor, condenser, and evaporator to keep food cool.
- Washing machines; combine water, detergent, and mechanical agitation to clean clothes. They use electric motors to drive the drum and pumps to circulate water.
- Microwaves; generate microwave radiation to heat food quickly by causing water molecules in the food to vibrate and produce heat.
- Vacuum cleaners; use an electric motor to create suction, which draws in dirt and debris from surfaces.
- Electric kettles; use a heating element to convert electrical energy into heat, boiling water rapidly.
