Vocabulary Development: Air Transport - JSS1 English Language Lesson Note

Vocabulary building on air transport 

Definition 

 

 

Air transport is the process of moving people, goods, and mail from one place to another using airplanes, helicopters, and other aircraft. It's a fast and efficient way to travel long distances both within Nigeria and internationally.
1. Airplane: A powered flying vehicle with fixed wings and a weight greater than that of the air it displaces.

2. Airport : A place where aircraft take off and land, equipped with runways, terminals, and other facilities.

3. Pilot: The person who controls and flies an aircraft.

4. Passenger: A person who travels in an aircraft but is not a member of the crew.

5. Cabin Crew: Also known as flight attendants, they are responsible for the safety and comfort of passengers during a flight.

6. Runway : A long, narrow strip of ground with a specially prepared surface that airplanes use for taking off and landing.

7. Terminal: A building at an airport where passengers transfer between ground transportation and the facilities that allow them to board and disembark from aircraft.

8. Departure : The act of leaving or setting out, especially on a journey by air.

9. Arrival: The act of reaching a destination, especially by air travel.

10. Baggage: Personal belongings packed for traveling, which passengers carry with them or check-in for transport in the aircraft's cargo hold.
