Vocabulary Development: Using "in" and "un" to Express Opposite
Introduction to Prefixes: Prefixes are letters added to the beginning of a word to change its meaning.
Prefix "in-": "In-" is used to form opposites of adjectives. However, not all words with "in-" are opposites. Example: "Inaccurate" (opposite of accurate), "Inactive" (opposite of active)
Prefix "un-": "Un-" is also used to form opposites of adjectives and verbs. Example: "Unhappy" (opposite of happy), "Unlock" (opposite of lock)
Examples in Context:
- "The information was inaccurate." (not accurate)
- "She was inactive during the meeting." (not active)
- "He felt unhappy about the decision." (not happy)
- "Can you unlock the door?" (opposite of lock)
