Vocabulary on Antonyms - SS1 English Lesson Note

Antonyms are words that have opposite meanings. They can be used to add variety and interest to your writing.

There are two main types of antonyms:

Direct antonyms have exactly opposite meanings. For example, the antonym of "big" is "small."

Near antonyms have meanings that are very similar but not exactly opposite. For example, the near antonym of "big" is "large."

Antonyms can be used in a variety of ways, including:

  • To create contrast

  • To add emphasis

  • To clarify meaning
