Weather and Climate - SS1 Geography Lesson Note
Weather:
Weather refers to the short-term atmospheric conditions in a specific place at a particular time. It includes things like temperature, humidity, wind speed, cloud cover, and whether it's sunny, rainy, or cloudy. Weather can change from day to day or even from hour to hour.
Climate:
Climate, on the other hand, refers to the long-term average of weather patterns in a particular region. It's what you expect the weather to be like in a place over a longer period, like a season or a year. Climate considers the typical temperature, rainfall, and weather patterns over many years.
Differences between Weather and Climate:
Duration: Weather is short-term, changing day-to-day, while climate is long-term and represents the average conditions over years.
Variability: Weather can vary widely in a short time, while climate provides a more stable picture of the region's typical conditions.
Time Scale: Weather is about now and the immediate future, while climate deals with the past and future averages.
