What is solid-state physics?

Solid state physics is a branch of condensed matter physics that studies the physical properties of solid materials, especially their electronic, magnetic, and optical properties. It deals with the behaviour of large numbers of atoms and molecules in solids, and their interactions with external stimuli, such as temperature, pressure, and electromagnetic fields.
