What is the significance of Mecca and Medina to Muslims?
Mecca and Medina are the two holiest cities in Islam. Mecca is the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad and is the site of the Kaaba, the most sacred mosque in Islam. Medina is the city where the Prophet Muhammad migrated after fleeing Mecca and is where he is buried. Both Mecca and Medina are visited by millions of Muslims each year for pilgrimage.
