When a number is subtracted from 2, the result equals 2 less than one-fifth of the number. Find the number
A
11
B
\(\frac{15}{2}\)
C
5
D
\(\frac{5}{2}\)
correct option: c
Let the number be y, subtract y from 2 i.e 2 - y

2 - y = 4 < \(\frac{1}{5}\) x y, 2 - y = 4 < \(\frac{y}{5}\)

2 - y - 4 < \(\frac{y}{5}\)

2 - 4 - y \(\frac{x}{5} - 4\), multiplying through by 5

5(2 - x) = 5(\(\frac{x}{5}\)) - 5(4)

10 - 5x = x - 20

-5x - x = -20 - 10

-6x = -30

x = \(\frac{-30}{-6}\)

= 5
