A Memorable Family Vacation

I will never forget the summer of 2019, the summer that our family decided to embark on a memorable vacation to Obudu Mountain Resort in Cross River State. The excitement in our home was palpable from the moment the idea was suggested, and it only grew as the days to our departure dwindled.

The morning of our journey, I woke up to the sound of birds chirping outside my window, their songs mirroring my jubilant mood. We packed our bags into the trunk of our car, each one filled with clothes, snacks, and the promise of adventure. The drive was long, but the scenic views of lush greenery and rolling hills kept us mesmerised. We sang along to our favourite songs and shared stories, the car filled with laughter and warmth.

As we neared Obudu, the landscape began to change. The flat plains gave way to towering mountains shrouded in mist, and the air grew cooler and crisper. We were greeted at the resort by friendly staff who welcomed us with warm smiles and refreshing drinks. The resort was nestled amidst the mountains, a perfect blend of nature and luxury. Our cabin, perched on a hill, offered a breathtaking view of the valley below, a sight that seemed to stretch into infinity.

Our days at the resort were filled with activities that brought us closer as a family. We spent our mornings hiking through the dense forests, the air filled with the scent of pine and the sounds of nature. The trails were challenging but rewarding, each step revealing a new wonder. We saw exotic birds with vibrant plumage, monkeys swinging from tree to tree, and even a family of antelopes grazing peacefully in a clearing.

One of the most memorable experiences was our visit to the canopy walkway. Suspended high above the forest floor, the walkway offered a bird’s-eye view of the lush greenery below. As we walked, the bridge swayed gently, and our hearts raced with a mix of fear and excitement. The view from the top was nothing short of spectacular, the forest stretching out like a vast, green ocean.

In the afternoons, we would return to the resort to relax by the pool, the cool water a welcome relief from the midday sun. We played games, shared stories, and indulged in delicious meals prepared with fresh, local ingredients. Each evening, we gathered around a campfire, the flames casting a warm glow as we roasted marshmallows and reminisced about the day’s adventures.

One particular evening stands out in my memory. After dinner, we decided to take a walk under the stars. The sky was a deep, velvety black, studded with countless stars that seemed to twinkle just for us. We found a quiet spot and lay on the grass, staring up at the night sky. It was a moment of pure magic, the beauty of the universe making us feel both insignificant and profoundly connected.

The highlight of our trip was our visit to the famous Obudu Cattle Ranch. We rode horses through the sprawling pastures, the wind in our hair and the sun on our faces. The ranch was home to a variety of animals, and we enjoyed feeding the cows and watching the playful antics of the young calves. The experience was both exhilarating and humbling, a reminder of the simple joys of life.

Our vacation to Obudu Mountain Resort was more than just a trip; it was an opportunity to reconnect with nature and with each other. It reminded us of the importance of family and the beauty of the world around us. As we drove back home, the car filled with souvenirs and happy memories, I realized that this trip had given us something priceless – a deeper bond and a treasure trove of unforgettable moments.

Even now, years later, the memories of that vacation still bring a smile to my face. It was a time of joy, adventure, and togetherness, a time when we truly lived in the moment and appreciated the simple pleasures of life. And though we have been on many vacations since then, none have been quite as special as that unforgettable trip to Obudu Mountain Resort.
