Bayero University Kano sprang up from the then Ahmadu Bello College which was set up in 1960. The Ahmadu Bello College was located within the School for Arabic Studies (SAS), in the old city of Kano.
When Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria was established in 1962, the college was renamed Abdullahi Bayero College. You can read the short history of BUK
