Agroforestry Systems - JSS2 Agricultural science Lesson Note
Agroforestry encompasses a variety of systems tailored to specific environmental conditions, land-use goals, and socio-economic contexts. Examples include alley cropping, where crops are grown between rows of trees; silvopasture, integrating trees with livestock grazing for improved forage quality and animal welfare; and windbreaks, which use trees to mitigate wind damage and erosion in agricultural fields. Each system is designed to optimise resource use efficiency, enhance productivity, and promote ecological resilience in agroecosystems.
