Causes of Air pollution - JSS1 Physical and Health Education Lesson Note

There are various sources of air pollution, including ;

  1. Industrial emissions: Pollutants such carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxides are released into the atmosphere by factories and power plants.
  2. Vehicle emissions: Cars, trucks, and other vehicles release pollutants such as carbon monoxide, particulate matter, and volatile organic compounds.
  3. Agricultural activities: Use of fertilizers, pesticides, and animal waste in agriculture can release harmful chemicals into the air.
  4.  Deforestation and burning of biomass: Clearing of forests and burning of agricultural waste release large amounts of pollutants into the air.
  5.  Domestic activities: Air pollution in homes can be caused by heating, cooking, and the use of chemical goods. 6. Natural sources: Dust storms, wildfires, and volcanic eruptions can all be causes of air pollution. 7. Ozone pollution: Sunlight reacts with pollutants from automobiles and industrial sources to generate ground-level ozone. 8. Industrial processes: Pollutants can be released into the atmosphere during manufacturing activities such smelting, refining, and chemical synthesis. 9. Construction and demolition: Dust and other pollutants can be released into the air during construction and demolition activities. 10. Waste incineration: Burning of waste in incinerators can release harmful pollutants into the air.
