Conservation Tillage - JSS1 Agricultural science Lesson Note
Conservation tillage involves minimal disturbance of the soil compared to traditional tillage methods.
1. No-Till Farming: Planting crops without prior ploughing, leaving the soil undisturbed, which reduces erosion and helps retain soil moisture.
2. Reduced Tillage: Limiting the depth and intensity of tillage operations to preserve soil structure and reduce soil disturbance.
3. Strip Tillage: Disturbing only a portion of the soil where crops will be planted, leaving the rest undisturbed to conserve moisture and prevent erosion.
4. Rotational Tillage: Alternating between titled and untitled areas to balance the benefits of reduced soil disturbance with the need for some cultivation.
