Countable Nouns and Uncountable Nouns - SS1 English Lesson Note

Description of Countable Noun and Uncountable Noun.

Some words in English cannot be counted, and these are called uncountable nouns. Examples of uncountable nouns include water, air, sugar, and rice. However, there are times when we need to talk about a specific quantity of an uncountable noun, and in such cases, we can make them countable.

Here are some ways to make uncountable nouns countable:

A countable noun - for example, instead of saying "I need water," you can say "I need a glass of water."

Use a quantifier - for example, instead of saying "I need sugar," you can say "I need some sugar."

Use a partitive - for example, instead of saying "I need rice," you can say "I need a bowl of rice."

Use a classifier - for example, instead of saying "I need milk," you can say "I need a bottle of milk."
